Newborn Studio Session Information

There is nothing I love more than taking beautiful pictures!

I aim for a relaxed, fun, stress-free atmosphere whilst photographing your family. I want the day to be as enjoyable as possible, so your true personalities shine through and those precious moments will be captured and treasured for a lifetime.

Please read the information and recommendations below – to help provide the most successful shoot for your sweet baby!

Newborn sessions are best done within the first 10 days when baby is still very sleepy although can be done up to 4 weeks of age – It’s best to tentatively pre-book your session based on your due date and then contact me soon after birth to book in an exact date and time.
Sessions can normally take anywhere up to 3 hours so please don’t feel stressed if everything is taking longer than you expect, this is totally normal and to be expected.
Comfort and warmth is going to be the number one factor for providing an extra sleepy atmosphere for your newborn. The room we are shooting in will be nice and warm, around 28C, so that baby feels comfortable without clothes on.
I have a large selection of blankets, props, and hats, camera and studio equipment etc. however if you have any props or special items you want to be included in the pictures please bring them along.
I encourage you to ensure your child is as well-rested as possible with a full tummy. Feed bub about 30 minutes prior to your arrival and interact with them as much as possible so they will be ready for a sleep once we have the studio set up.
Newborns photograph best in their natural state so no need to provide clothes.
Be prepared for a long shoot. Babies will sleep, but when they are being moved around a lot, their sleep isn’t near as solid and posing them takes time.
When bub is in the nick little accidents are inevitable so don’t worry – I’m prepared.
And remember because bub is a little person with a mind of its own I am flexible and will adjust the session according to the needs of your baby.

What to Wear?
I get this question all the time.

When it comes to what to wear for your session my best advice is always whatever you feel comfortable in. The idea of the session to is capture you and your family – your unique style, quirks and personality.

While still very popular, gone are the days of all white shirts and jeans sitting next to a pond.

A lot of colour, cool patterns, layers, accessories, textures, diversity, and any special props or items that can add a POP to your images.

Flip through magazines for great inspiration on how to throw some of your favourite items together to create a WOW look. Feel free to wear coordinating colours if you want a nice, simple and clean palette, but truly there are no rules for this. One of my favourite photographers, Arden Prucha, has created a Pinterest page dedicated to the ‘What to wear’ question so feel free to check it out – Pinterest page.

Please call or email me if you have any questions or need suggestions!
